the liberties, shane hogan and tom burke’s episodic documentary of the dublin neighborhood of the same name, explores the history, everyday life and sense of community in this well-known area of dublin through the experiences of its residents. the film equivalent of a portrait gallery, the eclectic group ranges from boxers to bingo players to academy award-winning actress brenda fricker (shown early in the film polishing her oscar). taken together, the film’s 15 vignettes paint a warm-hearted and insightful look into one of dublin’s most vibrant communities.
