On the third monday of the month Solas Nua holds its free monthly play reading at 1409 Playbill Cafe. Next season Solas Nua will co-commission a new play by a Northern writer in conjunction with Tinderbox Theatre, Belfast. Our companies have already partnered to great success on the 2007 production of Owen McCafferty's Scenes from the Big Picture which won Solas Nua its first Helen Hayes nomination. Formed in 1988, Tinderbox Theatre Company is one of Northern Ireland’s longest established and most respected independent theatre companies. Tinderbox is dedicated to new writing for the theatre, the playwrights who create it, and the artistic environment in which its work takes place. Tinderbox develops, commissions and produces dynamic new theatre plays that resonate strongly with audiences in Belfast, Northern Ireland and beyond. In anticipation of next year's project this season Solas Nua is devoting its entire play reading series to Tinderbox plays as a way to introduce DC audiences to the large wealth of work commissioned by Tinderbox in its history.
