Washington, DC will join hundreds of cities worldwide in celebrating the hundredth birthday of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett with its own Beckett Centenary Festival next month. Click for events and details...

The Washington, DC Beckett Centenary Festival is produced by Forum Theatre & Dance, independent producer Jessica Burgess, and Solas Nua in association with The Embassy of Ireland and the Office of International Programs, University of Maryland. The festival is made possible by the support of Culture Ireland and the American Conference for Irish Studies.

The Beckett Centenary Festival Events include: the international tour of the Gate Theatre's production of Waiting for Godot at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; free screenings of Beckett films; the international exhibition of Samuel Beckett - A Centenary Celebration commissioned by the Cultural Division of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs; presentations of selected Beckett radio plays with a free listening party; a symposium at the University of Maryland featuring prominent Beckett scholars and an evening of theater; a book club discussion of selected Beckett novels; and resident productions of selected shorter works coupled with readings of prose and poetry by the producing partners of the Beckett Centenary Festival.

The festival will run October 3rd through 15th, 2006, at various venues throughout the Washington, DC Metro Area.
