LANDLESS IN CONVERSATION WITH GEMMA TIPTON
ST. BRIGID’S DAY / LÁ FHÉILE BRÍDE

In association with the Embassy of Ireland, Washington DC

This live event took place on
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST • 6 PM ET / 11 PM GMT

To mark St. Brigid’s Day (Lá Fhéile Bríde), Solas Nua has invited Landless, a four-part a capella group to chat with writer and Irish Times journalist Gemma Tipton about their practice, research and inspiration. This event is the first part of a Solas Nua commissioned project called Two Miles Of Earth For A Marking Stone - a concert of traditional songs by Landless, with an experimental video accompaniment by artists Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, produced for International Women’s Day and the Capital Irish Film Festival on Monday 8th March 2021.

Landless are Lily Power, Meabh Meir, Ruth Clinton and Sinead Lynch. Based in Dublin, Belfast and Sligo, they sing unaccompanied traditional songs in close four-part harmony. For this performance they will be joined by Consuelo Breschi (Varo/Nomadic Piano Project). Ruth Clinton & Niamh Moriarty are collaborative artists based in the North-West of Ireland who use performance, video, sound installation and storytelling, informed by site-responsive research in order to open up spaces of renewed reflection.
