Documentary | North American Premiere | Woman Director, Writer & Producer | Irish Language

Generously sponsored by Dennis Houlihan and Mimi Conway

Ciara Nic Chormaic's documentary is a cinematic exploration of the rise of Hip Hop and Electronic music artists in Ireland embracing the oral traditions of folklore, ancient poetry and sean nós singing to create a new fusion sound and indigenous subgenre. An ensemble piece, featuring Irish language rappers Mory and Oisín Mac, producer and multi-instrumentalist Fehdah and Limerick rapper Strange Boy, this beautiful black and white film delves deep into these four artists' practice and how they are breaking new ground in Irish music. Through insightful interviews, intimate portrayals of the creative process of each artist as they work on tracks in studio, and visceral live performances, Ó BHĖAL tells the story of an exciting moment in time in the Irish contemporary musical landscape.

Tá léargas sa scannán faisnéise freisin, ó Chiara Nic Chormaic, ar an mborradh atá faoi hip hop agus ceol leictreónach faoi láthair in Éirinn agus é faoi thionchar an bhéaloidis, na filíochta, amhranaíocht sean-nóis agus chultúr dúchasach na tíre. Tá mír chomhcheoil den scoth ann le na rap-amhránaithe Mory agus Oisín Mac, ina bhfuil an stiúrthóir agus ceoltóir ildána Fehdah i gcomhar leis an rapamhránaí as Luimneach Strange Boy, ag tabhairt faoi stíl úrnua cheoil a bhfuil blas dúchasach uirthi. Feictear na healaíontóirí i mbun a gceirde agus léiritear tréimhse rí- spéisiúil i bhforbairt ceoil sa tír faoi láthair. Tá agallaimh sa scannán le na healaíontóirí thuasluaite agus déantar scagadh ar a gcuid modhanna agus geáitsí ceoil. Insíonn ‘Ó Bhéal’ scéal na linne seo faoi cé chomh bríomhar, beo, báúil is atá ceol comhaimseartha na hÉireann.
