Ireland's 2021 Oscar® submission for Best International Feature Film is a contemporary Irish-language stunner set in the wild mountains of Connemara. When the reclusive, sheltered John Cunliffe (Dónall Ó Héalai, star of Ireland's acclaimed 2020 Oscar® submission, ARRACHT) is suddenly propelled into independence after his long-doting parents pass away, he inherits mountain land that happens to be in the way of a lucrative wind farm development. As he becomes the subject of unrelenting jealousy, gossip, pity and even violence in his remote rural community, the shy 20-something is suddenly forced to navigate the choppy waters of romance, friendship, trust and vengeance for the first time. Seán Breathnach's visually striking debut is a poignant and unconventional coming-of-age tale about grappling with the past and learning to move into the future.

Credits: DIR/SCR Seán Breathnach, from the novel "The Thing About December" by Donal Ryan; PROD Paddy Hayes. Ireland, 2021, color, 93 min. In Irish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
