Hidden War: The Story of the IRB (Cogadh Faoi Cheilt: Scéal an IRB) is an exploration of the personalities, activities and philosophy of the Irish revolutionary organization, The Irish Republican Brotherhood over the almost six decades of its existence, shedding new light on this secretive group which has been previously relegated to the shadows. The story of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) has been overlooked in the recent period of historical commemoration.

The focus on the turbulence of the 1912-16 period is understandable, but without the work of the IRB in the previous decades it is arguable whether the events of that period would have happened at all, and it is impossible to understand partition, and its ongoing impact, without taking into consideration the role of the IRB in the 1918-24 period.

Hidden War: The Story of the IRB draws on contributions from the foremost authorities on the IRB, Fenianism, Irish Republicanism, The Irish Revolution, and nineteenth and twentieth-century Gaelic Revival and Irish nationalist culture and literature.
